MIRA Embroidery: Why One Well-Made Piece Is Worth More Than Ten Fast Fashion Buys

Today it's easy to buy cheap clothes with one click. They arrive in a few days, cost almost nothing and… after a few washes they lose their shape, fade or come apart at the seams. That's the logic of fast fashion: produce huge volumes, very fast and as cheaply as possible, so you buy again next season.

At MIRA we do exactly the opposite. Here's what goes into every piece, and why we believe one well-made garment is worth more than ten disposable ones.

Embroidery made by hands, not algorithms

Embroidery is MIRA's signature. Many of our embroideries are made entirely by hand, stitch by stitch. Others are machine-embroidered, but guided by hand by artisans who control every line. Either way, there are people, time and craft behind each piece.

That's why every embroidery has small variations that make it unique. In fast fashion, “embroidery” is often a print that imitates texture, or a glued-on appliqué that peels off with wear.

Take a close look at the embroidery and lace on the Malia dress, the delicate embroidery on the Hera dress or the embroidered yoke on the Sakaris dress: that's where you see the difference.

We even design our own prints

Every MIRA piece is designed on the Riviera Maya, facing the Caribbean Sea, with the heat, the beach and warm nights in mind. And we don't just design the styles: we also create our own prints. The flowers, motifs and color combinations you see on our fabrics are born in our studio, not taken from a generic catalog. That's why you won't find the same print anywhere else.

Made in India and Mexico

Our pieces are made in India and Mexico, in workshops with a long tradition of embroidery and textile work. We don't produce thousands of styles a month: we create curated collections with pieces made to last.

Quality fabrics you can feel (and that last)

The difference is also in what you can't see in a photo. We work with high-quality fabrics chosen for the Caribbean climate: cotton, rayon, viscose, modal and polyester, each one chosen for what the garment needs. We look for beautiful drape, breathability and a soft touch. And we care about the finishes: lace trims, fabric-covered buttons, cords and tassels that don't come loose after the first wash.

Over time, it shows. Many of our customers are still wearing their MIRA pieces years after buying them, and we love it when they tell us.

Cheap ends up expensive: the real math

A fast fashion piece may cost little, but if you wear it three or four times before it's ruined, every wear is expensive. A well-made piece you wear for years, on many trips, dinners and beach days, ends up costing far less per wear.

Fast fashion also has a cost that isn't on the label: huge amounts of clothing that end up in landfills within a short time, and working conditions that often go unseen. Choosing fewer, better pieces is a simple way to shop more consciously.

How to spot a quality garment

  • Touch the fabric: good fabric has weight and drape; it doesn't feel rough or plasticky.
  • Look at the embroidery from the inside: real embroidery has threads and stitches; a printed one is flat.
  • Check seams and finishes: even stitches, no loose threads, buttons sewn on securely.
  • Read the label: the fabric composition tells you a lot about how it will handle heat and washing.

How to care for your MIRA pieces

To keep your pieces with you for years, wash them in cold water on a delicate cycle or by hand, turn embroidered pieces inside out and dry them in the shade. See our care guide.

Fashion that stays with you

At MIRA we believe in clothes that become part of your story: the dress from that trip, the kaftan from that vacation, the blouse you're still wearing years later. Discover what's new at MIRA or explore our dresses and kaftans.

Enjoy life, enjoy MIRA.
