Caftán MIRA para un día de playa en el Caribe

What to Wear in Punta Cana: Outfit Guide for Your Dominican Republic Vacation

Punta Cana means white-sand beaches, turquoise water and sunshine almost all year. The climate is warm and humid, with a sea breeze and short showers that pass quickly. If you're staying at a resort in Bavaro, Cap Cana or Uvero Alto, the ideal suitcase is light and breathable, with pieces that work from day to night.

At MIRA we know the Caribbean well: our main store is in Punta Cana. This guide will help you plan your outfits day by day.

Punta Cana weather and the fabrics that work

In heat and humidity, choose fabrics that breathe and dry quickly:

  • Cotton: fresh and soft, ideal for beach kaftans and cover-ups.
  • Rayon crepe and viscose: light, with beautiful drape and easy to pack.
  • Chiffon: airy and elegant for dinners.

Beach and pool days at the resort

At an all-inclusive you go from the sun lounger to the beach bar and the buffet without going back to your room. The most practical choice is a kaftan or cover-up you can slip on and off over your swimsuit in a second.

  • The Leonor kaftan, in cotton with lace, is fresh and comfortable all day.
  • The Petra kaftan, with lace and little tassels, adds a special touch to your beach look.
  • The Cibrina cover-up, in textured cotton, works at the pool and for lunch.

Excursions: Saona Island, Macao and Hoyo Azul

For a catamaran day to Saona Island, Macao beach or Hoyo Azul in Cap Cana, think comfort: a loose short dress over your swimsuit, sandals that can get wet, a hat and sunscreen.

À la carte dinners and resort nights

Many Punta Cana resorts have à la carte restaurants that ask for slightly dressier attire in the evening. A flowy maxi dress is the perfect solution: elegant, fresh and comfortable.

  • The Delta maxi dress, with lace down the front and tiered ruffles, has beautiful drape and elegance.
  • The Leonor maxi dress, with a delicate print and lace, is soft and fresh.
  • The Daray maxi dress, with long lace sleeves, is ideal for breezy nights.

Beach weddings

Punta Cana is one of the favorite destinations for beach weddings. If you're a guest, choose light colors or soft prints, flowy fabrics and low sandals that won't sink into the sand. The Julia dress, with layered ruffles, is an elegant option for the ceremony or the dinner.

Quick packing list

  • 2 or 3 swimsuits.
  • 1 or 2 kaftans or cover-ups.
  • 1 or 2 short dresses for excursions.
  • 2 maxi dresses for dinners.
  • Flat sandals, water sandals and an evening pair.
  • Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • A light long-sleeve layer for the air conditioning.
